Education Summer Break

Elementary School Full Carpet Installation

Complete carpet installation across classrooms, corridors, and common areas during the summer break window so the school was ready for the first day.

Elementary school carpet installation project

The Challenge

A public elementary school needed a full carpet replacement across the building. The existing carpet was worn, stained, and no longer meeting acoustical or safety standards. With hundreds of students and staff returning in the fall, the facility manager had one non-negotiable constraint: the entire project had to be completed within the summer break window.

The scope included classrooms, hallways, the library, and administrative areas—roughly 45,000 square feet. Any delay would mean unfinished floors on the first day of school. The district needed a contractor who could plan precisely, mobilize quickly, and deliver on time.

Our Approach

We treated the summer break as a fixed deadline and built the schedule backward from the first day of school. A dedicated project manager coordinated daily with the facility team. We sequenced work by wing so that removal, prep, and installation could move in phases without overlap, maximizing crew efficiency.

Key Strategies

  • Backward scheduling: Locked in completion date and phased each wing so all areas were finished with buffer before opening
  • Dedicated crews: Assigned teams to the project for the full summer to avoid ramp-up delays and ensure consistency
  • Early material staging: All carpet and adhesives ordered and delivered before break to prevent supply delays
  • Daily progress reviews: Short daily check-ins with the facility manager so any issues were addressed immediately

Product Selection

We worked with the district to select carpet that would stand up to daily student traffic, meet fire and indoor air quality requirements, and stay within budget. The solution combined carpet tile in high-traffic areas with broadloom where larger, seamless runs were preferred:

  • Classrooms: Commercial carpet tile with high durability and stain resistance for easy spot replacement if needed
  • Hallways: Same carpet tile system for consistency and heavy traffic performance
  • Library and common areas: Broadloom in coordinating colors for a cohesive look
  • Administrative areas: Carpet tile in neutral tones to match the rest of the building

Results

The full carpet installation was completed with one week to spare before the first day of school. The facility manager had time for a final walk-through and punch list. Students and staff returned to a refreshed, quiet, and easy-to-maintain environment, and the district had a single point of contact and a clear record of the project for future planning.
